Visit to Epson Museum Suwa

After our stay in Tsubame City, Niigata, we will travel to Nagoya. Suwa City in Nagano Prefecture is located about halfway between them.

Suwa is well known for its manufacturing industry and is also home to the headquarters of Seiko Epson Corporation.

The Suwa area has a long history of watchmaking. From before World War II through the postwar years, the watch industry developed in this region, creating advanced skills for producing small and highly precise parts.

Over time, these technologies expanded beyond watches into precision machinery, electronics, printers, and many other fields. Because of its strong precision manufacturing industry, the Suwa area is sometimes called the “Switzerland of the East.”

During this trip, we also planned a visit to Epson Museum Suwa. We thought our guests from Cameroon would be interested in seeing how the technology that began with watchmaking developed into modern Japanese manufacturing.

However, when I checked the reservation website, it was already fully booked for the day we planned to visit.

I was disappointed, but I did not give up. I called Seiko Epson directly and asked, “Our guests are coming from overseas. Would it be possible for us to visit, even for a short time?”

After checking internally, they kindly agreed to make a special arrangement for our visit. We were very happy!!

Now, instead of simply stopping for a break during our long drive, we can spend some meaningful time learning about the history and development of Japanese manufacturing.

We sincerely appreciate the kind support of everyone at Seiko Epson who helped make this visit possible.

Thank you very much, and we look forward to visiting you!
