The Meaning of a National Flag

🇯🇵 この記事を日本語で読む → note

Recently, I had the experience of raising the national flag at a factory site.

It was the first time in my life that I had ever raised our national flag.

As I raised the flag, I found myself thinking about how many people had died under this flag during the war. I also thought of the many young men who boarded aircraft knowing that their mission was not designed for them to return alive.

As I thought about this, I felt a deep sense of respect and bowed to the national flag from the bottom of my heart.

I bought a Cameroon flag to welcome the team from Cameroon. I named him “Mr. Cameroon.”

Tomorrow, I will travel to Tsubame City with him. I will visit factories and our suppliers and sincerely apologize in face to face for the inconvenience and disappointment we have caused them.

I will treat Mr. Cameroon with the same respect as our own national flag. When I am not using him, I will keep him in a plastic bag so that he does not get dirty.

And I have an wonderful idea. Every time we complete a business transaction with a new country, I will buy the national flag of that country and add it to our collection.

Someday, I hope we will have flags from countries all over the world.

We will work hard through business toward a world where no one loses their life fighting against each other. Then, when I meet my late mother and grandmother again someday, I hope they will be proud of what I have done.

I wanted Mr. Cameroon to be the first flag in this collection.

Handmade Cheesecake

Image
Yesterday, I visited my father's house. He is living with my brother. Since my father is getting older, my brother usually cooks for both of them. When he tries a new recipe, he often watches videos by popular Japanese YouTubers. This is the handmade cheesecake he made using one of those YouTube recipes. When you buy cheesecake in Japan, most of them are relatively soft. However, the one my brother made was dense, rich, and absolutely delicious. An American friend of mine once told me that she had the most delicious cake in the world in Japan. I’m not sure whether Japan is the best place in the world to eat cake or not, but you can easily find very good cakes in Japan — even at local supermarkets. Going to Tokyo

Image
Yesterday, I went to Tokyo for a business meeting and to attend a seminar by Dr. Ken Mogi, a neuroscientist, in Shinjuku. Tokyo is so crowded—it felt like a completely different world, even though it’s only about 80 km from where I live. During the seminar, there were several things I wanted to ask Dr. Mogi, especially about AI, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. This was actually the fifth time I attended his seminar. For some reason, every time I go, I’m left with a sense that something is unfinished. So yesterday, after the seminar, I asked him one question about AI. He seemed uninterested and looked like he wanted to leave soon. But that’s okay. He is a world-renowned neuroscientist and a bestselling author—why would he be interested in my question?   English edited by ChatGPT ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Japan Trading ・ Exporting quality Japanese used industrial machinery worldwi...

A Chilly Day in Spring in Japan

Image
Today, it's a bit chilly for spring. On days like this, you might hear conversations like this in Japan: "It's a bit cold for spring today, but that's good—it means the cherry blossoms will last longer." People from other countries often wonder why Japanese people become so happy about something as simple as cherry blossoms blooming. Because we grow up in this environment, we may take it for granted. But when we really look at the cherry blossoms, we realize something deeper. They remind us how fleeting life is. They make us feel the transience and preciousness of life—and the value of each day we live.
